Weekly Update from Pres. Harvey Whille

Did you know that three out of four Americans rank finances as their biggest source of stress?  To help members in that regard, the UFCW offers a free online “Money Essentials” course designed to help members take control of their financial situation. Through real-life scenarios, members learn the money management skills necessary to make smart financial decisions — from creating a budget and setting financial goals, to obtaining credit and applying for loans.

Similar programs are available to Union Members from UnionPlus.org, which offers free Debt Management Plans — individualized to your needs — through Money Management International, a nonprofit dedicated to changing creating fresh starts for working families.

You can also log-on to a new web site launched by the State of New Jersey called NJFinLit, which features user-friendly interactive tools, videos and other information to help you better understand and manage your resources.

Links to all of these programs can be found on our website – www.ufcw1262.org – by clicking on the Financial Smarts Slide.

On a lighter note, did you know that July is National Hot Dog Month? Yes, that is a real thing.  To help celebrate, Labor 411 is promoting the purchase of Union-Made Hot Dogs, most of them made by your fellow UFCW members.  For a list of Union Made Hot Dogs – and hundreds of other Union Made products – visit www.Labor411.org.

Remember when you Buy Union-Made Products and Shop Union Supermarkets, you help create and preserve jobs that provide contractually negotiated benefits including wage increases and health and welfare benefits.

As always, I thank you – our more than 20,000 members here in New Jersey and New York – for your ongoing dedication and service to your communities.  It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as your president.
