Hazard Pay Grievances Filed Against Three Companies

Local 1262 has filed written grievances with several employers that have discontinued Hazard Pay.  The grievances were filed today with ACME Markets, Food Circus Supermarkets and Estevez Markets (both of which operate under the Foodtown banner).

The grievances were filed against these employers demanding that they reinstate Hazard Pay.

“Local 1262 will not stand by and allow any company to put our members in harm’s way without appropriate compensation,” said President Harvey Whille.  “We do not take these actions lightly and will fight to the end for our members.”

The filing of the grievances against these three operators comes on the heels of a formal notice issued earlier this week to Stop & Shop and ShopRite informing them that the Local will do whatever is within its contractual ability to ensure that they continue to maintain the Hazard Pay they currently have in effect.

That letter also stated that should those employers decide to eliminate Hazard Pay the Local will have no choice but to pursue contractual remedies.

“Eliminating hazard pay while our members continue to face exposure to the virus is simply not acceptable and we will do whatever is necessary to seek appropriate remedies pursuant to the terms of our collective bargaining agreement.”
