United Food and Commercial Workers Local
1262 represents more than 30,000 members in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania who are employed by such giants in the retail
food industry as ShopRite, Foodtown, Pathmark,
Stop & Shop, Key Foods and Grand Union as well as other retail
establishments such as Bograd’s Fine Furniture.
Local 1262 is among the five largest local
unions in the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union which
itself has more than 1.3 million members employed in retail, food
processing and other industries in the United States and Canada.
Local 1262’s professional staff works
around the clock to protect our members’ rights by negotiating contracts
with their employers that continue to set the industry standard by
providing excellent wages, comprehensive health benefit plans and secure
pensions.
Always a highly competitive industry, in
recent years the supermarket and retail industry in New Jersey and Metro New York has faced an influx of
non-union supermarket and retail employers.
In response, Local 1262 has undertaken an
aggressive public education and organizing campaign, reaching out to
workers who want to improve their lives and provide more secure futures for
themselves and their families.
As we move towards our 70th
Anniversary, Local 1262 will continue to meet these challenges and stands
ready to serve our members around the clock by negotiating the best
possible contracts and protecting their jobs.
